Bernadene Marian was born on August 14, 1921 in Cambridge the daughter of Esther Josephine Hier Harlan and Jesse Leroy Harlan. She grew up in Kewanee, Illinois, and after graduation from Kewanee High School in 1938, she immediately left for the ‘big city’ of Moline. There she met her future husband, Atley Olson. During WWII Dene worked for the telephone company in Moline and Rockford Illinois. After Atley returned from service in WWII, he and Dene were married in Moline on April 14th, 1946, and lived there all their married life. They enjoyed spending weekends in Bagley, Wisconsin and vacations in Florida until Atley’s death on February 22, 1990.
Dene was a huge Cubs fan and was always hopeful this would be THE year for them (and maybe it will be)! Dene did many cross-stitch samplers still enjoyed by family members.
