David W. Carlson, 68, of Rock Island, died Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2018, at First Evangelical Free Church, 3321 7th Street, Moline. Memorial visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to Youth Hope, 3928 12th Avenue, Moline or to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
David was born on June 24, 1949 in Moline, the son of Carl and Effie Molter Carlson. He was a 1967 graduate of Rock Island High School. He attended Black Hawk College and the College of Emporia in Emporia, Kansas, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business. While a student, he enjoyed working at Elliott’s Flying Service in Moline. Following college, he worked in sales for Duffy Paper Company in Rock Island. He was later employed by Ozark Airlines and TWA.
Dave had a heart of gold and loved doing things for others; he was truly a friend to everyone. He was a hard worker and had a kind and generous spirit. Dave was a former member of First Evangelical Free Church of Moline, where he taught a boys Sunday School class and served as a trustee for many years.
Survivors include his brother, James (Kathy) Carlson, Rock Island; sister, Jean (John) Blomquist, Moline; nephew, Austin Carlson (fiancé Emily Drumm); nieces, Katelyn (Kelan) Keimig, Anna (Hesed) Tendero, Rebecca Blomquist, Sarah (Tyler) Curtis; and three great nieces and one great nephew. Dave will be dearly missed by his family, his friends, and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
