Eugene Elmer Anderson 90, of Moline passed away on November 25, 2017, at 2:50 AM after a long and brave battle with Parkinson's disease. He was a resident of Hope Creek Care since July 28, 2017.
Funeral services will be at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Ave, Moline, at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 1, 2017. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service from 12:00 to 1:00PM. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, 800 29th Street, in Moline after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritans Purse, First Evangelical Free Church, or to Hope Creek Care Center.
Eugene Elmer Anderson was born on May 30, 1927, in Stromsburg, Nebraska, to Elmer August Anderson and Selma Olivia Naslund Anderson. He married Yvonne Jeanette Mathison on June 2, 1950, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Konstant in Moline. They were married for 67 years. They had 5 children together. Eugene had 1 sister.
Gene enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid gardener. He loved his family and was often seen holding hands with the love of his life, "Yvonne". He lived at home with his beloved wife, Yvonne, as his Caregiver through July 2017. He was a member of First Evangelical Free Church for many years. Eugene worked for John Deere as a warehouseman and shipping clerk in whole goods, Moline and East Moline, for 35 years retiring in October 1982. He later worked at Hedbergs, Flicks, Ace Hardware, Trevor's True Value, Menards and Jewel in Moline.
Survivors include his children: Arlene Herrin, Longwood, FL, Ellen (Jerry) Barr, Moline, Jeffrey (Sharon) Anderson, Buffalo Grove, IL, June (Jeff) Hart, Longwood, FL. A daughter, Susan Jean Anderson, (preceded him in death). Grandchildren include: Nicole (Jason) Greathouse, Stephanie (Michael) Dougherty, Jeremy (Rebecca) Barr, Jake Barr, Jennifer (Eric) Ekstam, Jeannette (Jon) Smith, Daniel Anderson, Shelby Anderson, Dalton (Jenna) Hart, Emily Hart, Brett Hart. Great grandchildren include: Donnie Fisk, Alec Dougherty, Maverick Dougherty, Ireland Dougherty, Evan Ekstam, Andrew Ekstam, Jillian Smith, Josie Smith, Carly Barr, Marissa Hart, Addison Hart and Brooklyn Hart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Susan Jean, on November 21, 1955, and sister, Doris Jones.
