Joseph McCaffrey

Joseph L. McCaffrey, 88, of Silvis, IL, died Monday, November 02, 2015, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The family will hold a private burial at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Fund, or to Wildwood Baptist Church, where he was a member.

Joseph was born on July 4, 1927, in Quincy, IL, the son of Sydney and Lee Edna Groce McCaffrey. He married Betty Margaret Clifton on June 11, 1950, in Davenport, IA, and she preceded him in death on September 7, 2014. He worked as a supervisor in Tool & Dye for John Deere Harvester Works, retiring in 1985. Following his retirement, he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1986 to 1991.

Joseph was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army at the end of World War II in occupation of Japan.

Survivors include is 3 daughters, Norma (Charles) Nagle, Silvis, IL, Barbara (Gary) Losey, Bartonville, IL, and Carol (Robert) Ariss, Geneva, IL; 8 grandchildren, Keith Nagle, Kevin Nagle, Kathy Donnelly, Julie Finley, Bobby Ariss, Elizabeth Ariss, Tim Losey, and Janelle West; 10 great grandchildren, Kaleb Nagle, Ronan Donnelly, Shaeley Donnelly, Kira Finley, Kendrack Finley, Joshua Losey, Emily West, Tyler West, Dylan West, and Titus Nagle; and brother, W. Merle McCaffrey, Silvis, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Margaret.
