Marianne (Frye) Basala

Marianne Frye Basala, 95, formerly of Sherrard, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Fieldstone of DeWitt Senior Living.

A celebration of life gathering will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday October 7, 2023, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wellspire-Fieldstone of DeWitt, IA, or the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Marianne was born on January 28, 1928, in Viola, Illinois, the daughter of Ken and Bertha (Brasmer) Frye.  Marianne attended Sherrard High School and received her GED in 1985. She married Marlyn “Doc” Basala on May 30, 1945, in Aledo, Illinois and they went on to have 5 children. They were married for 37 years until Doc’s passing in 1983.

Besides being a much-loved wife and mother, Marianne worked for several years at Jaydon, Inc., Sherrard school district and Walmart. Her interests centered around her children, grandchildren, and the dogs she loved. Marianne was the heart and soul of her family. She will be greatly missed.

Marianne was survived by her children: Richard Basala, Davenport, IA, Rob (Diane) Basala, St. Charles, MO, Rian (Denise) Basala, Viola, IL; and Rochelle (Bruce) Williams, Eldridge, IA; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; brothers, Dennis (Jeanie) Frye, Milan, IL and Tim (Jeanne) Frye, Eldridge, IA.

She was preceded by her parents, husband, Marlyn; infant son, Michael David; daughter-in-law, Vicky Basala and brother Deane Frye.
