Amos M. Spahnie, 82, of Viola, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2008 at Swedona Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 - 4th St., Orion. Burial will be in Swedona Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Swedona Lutheran Church or to his family.
Amos was born in Cordova, IL on August 1, 1925 to Amos J. and Lila Chase Spahnie. He was raised and loved by his father Amos and mother Alma Rehmel Spahnie. He married Carol Zurcher on April 27, 1962 at the Swedona Lutheran Church. He lived and farmed in the same house since he was 9 years old. He was a tool grinder of IH Farmall in Rock Island for 30 years, retiring in 1981.
Amos was proud to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII in Germany. He had been a member of the New Windsor American Legion. He was a 50 year member of the Preemption Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Swedona Lutheran Church, where he enjoyed coffee hour with his buddies. He also enjoyed the time he was with the dialysis family. Amos was active in the New Windsor Rodeo in the agricultural and floral displays where he earned several Best of Show honors. He was a handyman and enjoyed helping others. He also loved to make Christmas wreaths for his family and friends. He enjoyed watching western movies and was a John Wayne fan.
