Anthony Joseph Van Ryn, age 83 of Moline, died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at his home after an extended illness with his wife by his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. The Rev. Msgr. Dale Wellman will be the celebrant. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Graveside services are 3:00 p.m. on Friday at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Atkinson, IL. with military honors conducted by Atkinson American Legion Post #724. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
Anthony was born, June 3, 1923 in Moline, the son of Anthony and Louise (Leivens) Van Ryn. He married Shirley R. Matteson, June 27, 1950 in Pegot, Arkansas.
He was raised and educated in Moline - graduating from Moline High School in 1939. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1946 during WW II in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and received 3 Bronze Stars.
Anthony was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline. He was employed at EMCO in Milan as a pattern maker for many years and he retired in 1985. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time with his family, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, his sister Marjorie (William) Wirth of Osco, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Rita Tucker.
