Arnold E. Greer

Arnold Greer, 87, of Moline died Wednesday October 24th, 2007 at Iowa Masonic Nursing Home in Bettendorf Iowa.
Services will be held Monday October 29th at 11:00am at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline with visitation one hour prior to the time of the funeral. Burial with be at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery.
Arnold was born in August 10th 1920 in Aurora Illinois to George and Lulu (Nesbit) Greer. He was the youngest of 8 children. He served honorably in WWII in India-Burma and Central Burma. Decorations and Honors included Asiatic-Pacific theater ribbon with 2 bronze battle stars, 4 overseas service bars, and a good conduct medal.
Arnold married Jean A. Myers on May 7th 1965 in Chicago. He moved to Moline to become the manager of the Youth Opportunity Center (Moline). Arnold retired as the manager of the Moline office of the Illinois Department of Employment Security in 1987. He helped secure services and programs to improve employment, housing and education opportunities for the residents in the Illinois Quad Cities area. He served on the board of directors of Project NOW, Youth Service Bureau, QC Economic Development Committee, Minimum Security Correctional Facilities, the Council on Alcoholism, and other civic organizations.
He is survived by his wife Jean Greer, daughter Arlette Greer of Chicago; son Eldridge Greer, his wife Dawn, their daughters Althea and Audre of Denver, CO; and son Ashley Greer, his wife Kara, their daughters Tyra, Maya, and Ella of Moline; sister in law Francis Greer of Brooklyn NY; nieces Marva Bowers of Washington DC and Sharon Cohen of Brooklyn NY; and other grandnieces and grandnephews.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Corrine, Claude, Mrylie, Samella, George J.R., Carl and Orville.
