August "Augie" DeMay

August “Augie” L. DeMay, Jr., 82, of Orion, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at his home.

Memorial Mass will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1402 10th St., Orion.  Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. at the church prior to the Memorial Mass.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Orion Athletic Booster Club in Augie’s name.  Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion, is assisting the family.

Augie was born on January 9, 1936, in Annawan, the son of August, Sr. and Sylvia (Billiet) DeMay.  He married Eleanor “Ellie” Rowland on August 25, 1956, in Peoria.  She preceded him in death on September 7, 2011.  Augie began his business partnership with Earl Papini at the Standard Oil Service Station in Peoria and continued together in Orion with the Augie and Earl’s Chevrolet Dealership and the Orion Car Wash.  He was an active member of Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and was also involved in the Orion community in numerous ways through his volunteer work.  Augie also worked for the Orion School District.

Survivors include his children, Kim (Rodney) Lee, California, Marti (Kellee) DeMay, Missouri, Kelli (Mike) Schroeder, Michigan, and Kourtni (Greg) Weaver, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, William, Henry “Hank”, Lawrence, Hubert, and Marvin.
