Barbara Oates, 78, of Moline, IL, ended her earthly suffering and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at her home.
Barbara was born on January 8, 1935, in Joliet, IL, the daughter of Vance W. and Alice (Gussman) Cook. She married James L. Oates on January 17, 1979, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and he preceded her in death on February 7, 2012. She was a dear wife to James for 33 years before his death.
Barbara was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Moline. She belonged to Phi Theta Kappa Sorority and the National Honor Society. She also belonged to the Illinois Alliance of Retired Americans as well as AFSCME Retirees Chapter 31, Subchapter 74 where she was the previous secretary and trustee. Prior to her retirement she worked as a nurse in many facilities including several years at Dixon Development Center.
She was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren who lovingly called her Grandma Bear.
