Beatrice Madison

July 23, 1931 — October 12, 2011

Beatrice Moody Madison, of East Moline, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Trinity, Rock Island.
Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Private family burial will be at a later date.
Beatrice was born July 23, 1931, in Quitman, Mississippi, the daughter of John Henry Moody and Celia Ann Watson Moody. She was the 3rd child of 13 children. She was converted at age 14 and was baptized at Elizabeth Baptist Church in 1945 in Quitman, where she was the Sunday School Secretary. She married James A. Madison on October 27, 1945, in DeKalb, Mississippi. Together they had 5 children.
After moving to East Moline, Beatrice became a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James A. Johnson. Beatrice was past president of the Red Circle Ban, Treasurer & Secretary of The BTU, past president of the Willing Workers Club and past Chairperson of the Culinary Committee.
Beatrice enjoyed cooking. She worked in many area restaurants. In the Quad Cities since 1955, she demonstrated her expertise in culinary at such notable restaurants as: General Quarters on the Rock Island Arsenal, El Rancho Villa, Ben's Gourmet House, The Former Plantation, Jumer's Castle Lodge, The Captains Table and Rexie's Gourmet House. She retired from Jumers Casino on July 23, 2010 after 56 years in the restaurant business. She was in 3 commercials for: The Former Plantation, Jumers Castle Lodge and Rexie's Gourmet House.
Beatrice received her food service certification from Blackhawk College and a certification in Iowa. She was an avid cookbook collector. She was a member of Hotel Restaurants Employees and Bartender International Union AFL-CIO Local #310. She also enrolled in a home study course with International Correspondences School of Hotel and Restaurant. Beatrice was a volunteer at Illini Hospital in Silvis from 1968-69 in the gift shop.
During the building of The New Mount Zion, The Madison's donated a window in their honor as members. She sang in the choir at the Old Mount Zion Church.
Beatrice leaves to cherish her memory and Home going: sons James (Luria), Lavern (Joyce), daughter, Darlene Dortch, 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Twin sisters, Lena Sloan and Rena Ruffin of Milwaukee, WI. Brothers: Odell Moody, Chicago, IL, Retired Sgt. John Moody, Virginia and Robert Moody, Rock Island. There are many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, daughters Corene Madison, Ada Madison McCorkle, 1 grandson, 8 sisters and 3 brothers.
Beatrice enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Her greatest accomplishment was knowing how to hold Gods Unchanging Hands.
