Benjamin W. Howard, 69, East Moline, died Friday, June 1, 2007 at his home.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 5, 2007 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue ,Moline. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to QC Animal Welfare Center, Milan, Animal Aid, Moline, or a charity of choice.
Ben was born on March 20, 1938 in Walla Walla, Washington to Percival and Esther Washburn Howard. He grew up in Lamoni , Iowa and belonged to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He married Carol Anne Stiegel in Rock Island, Illinois.
Ben graduated from Moline High School and Blackhawk College and also attended St. Ambrose University.
Ben was a foundryman all his life. He started his career with John Deere Malleable Works. He started a core business named CoreCo, then owned and operated J & J Speciality Machining Company in Milan. Ben purchased a foundry from Deere & Co. in Hoopeston, Illinois, renaming it Vermillion Iron Corporation. Ben currently owned and operated Bloomfield Foundry Inc. in Bloomfield, Iowa , as well as Metals Engineering Company. Ben was a member of the Vikings Club, Elks, and numerous foundry associations.
Ben loved his family and friends dearly. He had an exceptionally generous and caring spirit, and will be sorely missed.
Survivors include brother and sister-in-law Gilbert and Rosabelle Howard, Aurora, CO; sister-in-law Donna Periolat, San Carlos, CA; son Randall Howard, Dallas, TX; daughters Troi McCormick, East Moline; Stephanie Howard, Moline; and Monica and Rob Ausdal, Milan; six grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carol, and his brother Darrell Howard.
