The former Betty Claire Bell was born March 31, 1921 in Stockton, IL to Frank and Margaret (North) Bell. She was raised from the age of two in the home of her Uncle and Aunt, James and Lola North Drain.
She graduated from Savanna High School and from the former Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing. She married John M. Blomquist in Savanna on November 10, 1945. He died on July 5, 1987. Betty worked as a nurse at the former Moline Public Hospital and John Deere Industrial Equipment Works. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church for over sixty years and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a volunteer for Christian Friendliness and a member of the Trinity School of Nursing Alumni Association.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, writing letters to relatives and friends, and watching sports. Her greatest joy was being with her family and eight grandchildren and one great grandchild: all of whom she adored. She was a compassionate and loving friend. She cherished her friends from her church family, neighborhood, Supper Club, and school, especially her R.N. friends and classmates from MPH Class of 1944. These friendships endured for over sixty years and became more precious with the passage of time. The family wishes to thank the staff at Heartland who so lovingly cared for Betty the past eight years. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
