Betty J. Smith, 88, of Moline, IL, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. with a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery in Mesa, AZ. Betty was born on July 1, 1929, in Centerville, IA, the daughter of George and Velma Temple O’Toole. She married Gilbert Allen Smith on May 31, 1947, in Centerville and he preceded her in death. She worked as a medical secretary for Martin Lab in Moline for 15 years.
Betty was a member of the Lutheran faith. She enjoyed reading and knitting.
Survivors include her daughter, Connie (Jay) Smith-Barnett, Gilbert, AZ; daughter-in-law, Wendy Brown, Milan, IL; 3 grandchildren, Shane (Jessica) Barnett, Gilbert, AZ, Evan (Amanda) Barnett, San Francisco, CA, and Jimmy Moyer, Milan, IL; great grandchildren, Shawn Barnett, Alexander Barnett, Casey Barnett, and Eloise Barnett; brother, Bill (Nancy) O’Toole, River Forest, IL; brother-in-law, Wayne Adair, Cedar Rapids, IA; dear friends, Lola and Mike Harris, Colona, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James Michael Smith; 2 sisters, Georgia Adair and Sara (Cleon) Harris.
