Bruce Warren Gengler

Bruce Warren Gengler, 70, of Marco Island, FL, formerly of Coal Valley, IL, died Sunday, February 19, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 210 E 22nd Avenue, Coal Valley.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline.  Burial will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246.  Memorials may be made to St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Coal Valley.

Bruce was born on March 18, 1946, in Moline, IL, the son of Warren J. and Shirley Thomson Gengler.  He married Pamela Selhost on April 8, 1967, in Rock Island.  He later married Cindy Hoffman on November 17, 1979, in East Moline.  He started his careers working for Corral Drive-In in Moline, and went on to work for Allied Stone Quarry, City of Moline Sewage Treatment Plant, Alcoa, as a lab tech for the former Mercy Hospital, and retired from John Deere as a network administrator for Information Systems in 2011 after 37 years.

Bruce graduated from Augustana College in 1973.  He was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Navy.  While residing in Le Claire, IA, he was a member of Knights of Columbus.  He was quite adventurous and enjoyed boating, sailing, the ocean, motorcycles, and all sports.  His dog, Sam, was his constant companion.  Above all, Bruce loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Bruce lived in Illinois and his dream was to retire and move to Florida.  In 2011, Bruce and Cindy made Marco Island, Florida, their home.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy Gengler; son, Andrew (Tara) Gengler, Moline, IL; daughter, Stacey Ruark (Corey Posateri), Dubuque, IA; 7 grandchildren, Josh Ruark (Christina Kirzeder), Milan, IL, Amanda Ruark, Rock Island, IL, Ashleigh Ruark (Jared Tapscott), Galesburg, IL, Taylor Gengler, Moline, IL, Meaghan Gengler (Adam Besse), Iowa City, IA, Quentin Gengler, Moline, IL, Pia Gengler, Moline, IL; 4 great grandchildren, Peyton Gengler, Madison Sparkman, Ryleigh Sparkman, and Kaleb Ruark; sister, Kathy Sue Francis, East Moline, IL; brother, Brian (Karen) Gengler, East Moline, IL; mother-in-law, Margaret Hoffman, Silvis, IL; sisters-in-law, Linda (Pete) Beale, Port Byron, IL, and Deb (Steve) Karr, Eldridge, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
