Carl Johnson, age 88, of Moline, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park where military honors will be provided by Orion American Legion Post # 255. In lieu of flowers, Carl asked for memorials to be given to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church of Rock Island or to the Veteran's Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Carl was born on June 21, 1924, in Moline, IL, the son of Knute and Augusta (Karlson) Johnson. He married Betty A. Swensson on June 9, 1946, in Rock Island, IL. She preceded him in death on April 8, 2002. He was a United States Marine Corps. Veteran, having served during WWII. He began working at George Evans as a welder and later retired from John Deere in 1985. Carl was a member of Orion American Legion Post #255 and also a member of UAW. He was a former member of Doric Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and watching the Cubs. Above all, Carl was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed, especially by his brother, Elmer, who he was very close to.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 brothers, Helmer and Willard; sister, Margaret Hertz.
