Carl Dean Thompson

June 30, 1932 — December 17, 2006

Carl D. Thompson also known as "Gramps", age 74, of Port Byron, Sunday, December 17, 2006 went home to dance with mom in the House of the Lord after a short battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be 11a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2006 with a visitation one hour prior to service time at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens with a luncheon to follow the committal service at Faith Lutheran Church (1611-41st St., Moline). Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
Carl was born June 30, 1932 in Rock Island to Carl and Theresa (Jones) Thompson. He graduated in 1950 from Glen Morse High School in Ontario, Canada. He married Miriam Ruth Duck on June 29, 1952.
At 13 years Carl was a farm hand in Canada and Wisconsin. On December 10, 1952 he joined the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War as a panel engineer being honorably discharged on December 1, 1956.
He was employed by Hayes Aircraft & Swan Engineering and in 1964 he joined Williams & White reaching the level of superintendent before retiring in 1986. Dad and mom moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where dad's idle hands continued to work for The City of St. Petersburg Park Dept. and as a handyman at Gateway Condo's. On March 27, 1992 he was named Sunshine Ambassador for the city of St. Petersburg. He retired again in 1992. Dad continued to be everyone's friend and handyman until the loss of mom on August 16, 2003. Dad returned home to the Quad Cities, keeping busy doing handy work with his sons and grandsons in their homes.
He is survived by his sister Elaine Wallgren, MN.; sons & daughter-in-laws Douglas (Irene) Thompson, GA., LaVern (Cyndi) Thompson, Cambridge, Timothy (Kym) Thompson, Port Byron with whom he resided.; daughter Gunilla Olofsson, Sweden; son's of the heart Richard (Sally) Krantz, Moline; Danny (Mary) Thomas; brother-in-law Don (Audrey) Duck; sister-in-law Iletta Duck. Grandchildren: Jacob (Karen) Thompson, Brandi (Alex) Cabriales, Nick (Allison Blackwood) Thompson, Stephanie Thompson, Zirka Thompson, Shawn (Tara Welge) Robinson, Bradley, Damien & Chance Robinson, Ricky (Amanda VanRaalte) Anderson, Ashley Anderson, Skyler Rapp & Sara Edstrom.. Great grandchildren: Jorden ( G.G.) Robinson, Alexander ( Baby"B") Robinson & baby Patrick due next spring.; many nieces, nephews & great nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years Miriam, his parents, a sister Teresa and brother, Floyd.
