Carol Fern Grundstrom

Carol Fern Grundstrom, 74, of Orion, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m.Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. 1301-4th Street, Orion. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Western Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
Carol was born December 9, 1935 in Woodhull, IL., the daughter of Everett and Hazel (Brown) Litton. She was a graduate of Alwood High School. She married Lyle E. Grundstrom on October 6, 1956 in Woodhull.
Carol was a great bus driver for the Orion School District 223 for 38 years. Her routes included special education children and United Township classes.
She was co-owner of Grundstrom Pump Company and continued running the company with her son, Carlyle, after Lyle's death in 1997. She enjoyed working with the water well customers and the vendors that provided their equipment.
She was a "Days of Our Lives" fan for over 50 years. She loved NASCAR, Elvis and loved to drive her red Ford pick-up. She was a lifetime member of the Orion Sportsman Club, United Methodist Church, the "Card Club" and the Orion "Red Hatters" Group.
Carol was a good-hearted, caring, helpful person to everyone she knew. She was a great mother, grandmother and friend. Her life had adversities, but she drew great strength from her strong determination and her love of family. She was a true phoenix, with grit and the will to keep the rising strength.
