Carrol M. Rugh, 99, of Coal Valley, IL, passed away, Tuesday November 14, 2023, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday November 20, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, 2431 1st Street, Coal Valley. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services at the church. The burial will be at Glennwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family.
Carrol was born on March 6, 1924, in Richland Grove Township, Illinois, the daughter of Jesse and Edna (Hancock) Trego and sister to Ralph, Bob, and George. She married Richard H. Rugh on November 19, 1941, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2004. Carrol was a loving homemaker and a very active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher. She also helped with the choir and in the kitchen. Carrol was a member of the Women’s Association and was the first woman to serve on the Orion High School Board of Education. She had a true love of life and at the age of 89, parachuted out of an airplane.
Survivors include her son Jack (Zaiton) Rugh of Vienna, VA; daughters, Susan Stropes of Chilhowee, MO and Christine Rugh of Coal Valley, IL; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jackie Shattuck of Coal Valley, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; and brothers, Bob and George.
