Charles David Swanson, age 68 of Sherrard, IL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 12, 2010.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 15th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. in Orion. Burial will be in Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assn. or St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion.
Charles was born on March 1, 1942 the son of Ivan C. Swanson, Sr. and Evelyn Seabloom Swanson. He married Jean Schultz in June 1964. They later divorced. He married Diane Watne Booth on October 10, 1981 in the East Moline Metal's Chapel.
Charles was a 1960 graduate of Orion High School. He then joined the Army where he served from 1964 through 1966. He began his career as a carpenter and later worked at the East Moline Metal Works where he retired in 2002 after 32 years. He was a member of the Orion VFW Post 143 and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion. He enjoyed helping his brother farming and spending time with his great-grandson.
Survivors include his wife Diane; two daughters Theresa and Doug Johnson of Sherrard and Lisa Amos and Andrew Arbogast of Sherrard; his son Mark and Karen Briggs of Trivoli, IL; grandchildren Britney Amos of Matherville, Destiny Amos of Aledo, Melissa Johnson of Sherrard and Chloe Briggs of Trivoli, IL; great grandson Karter Amos of Matherville; his sister Dolores and Arthur "Oz" Carlson of Orion; his brother Marvin and Barb Swanson of Orion and sister-in-law Beverly Swanson of Rock Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ivan Swanson, Jr. and infant brother Donovan.
