Charles "Chuck" E DeBates

Charles “Chuck” E. DeBates, 86, of Rock Island, passed away, February 26, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until services start Thursday at the funeral home.   Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  

Chuck was born on May 24, 1937, in Gavin, MN, the son of Elsie (Smink) and Henry H. DeBates. Chuck was self-employed and worked as a painter and clam diver. Some of his hobbies included going to the casino, fishing, and junking.

Survivors include his significant other Kathy Elliott; sons Charles DeBates of Moline, IL, Tony DeBates of Moline, IL, and Phillip DeBates of Bettendorf, IA; daughters Tisha Edwards of Colona, IL, Shannon (Junior) Brewster of Wheatland, IA, and Jonni Elliott of Rock Island, IL; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, and 5 sisters.
