Charles O. Pappas, 80, of Swedona, IL, died Monday, September 24, 2012 at Trinity Rock Island.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2012 at Swedona Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Burial will be at Swedona Lutheran Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Orion American Legion Post #255. Memorials may be made to Swedona Lutheran Church where he was a member.
Charles was born on October 30, 1931 in Rock Island, IL, the son of Charles and Helen (Nichols) Pappas. He married Janice D. Tomlinson on April 10, 1954 in Swedona. He began his career on June 29, 1956 at John Deere Harvester in East Moline and retired as an Assembler on September 1, 1987 after 31 years. Charles served in the United States Army during the Korean War and a was a member of the Orion American Legion, U.A.W. 865 of East Moline, and a former member of the Sherrard Lion's Club. He was an Election Judge for the Mercer County Election Board as well as a member of the Wednesday Night Alpha Bowling Team. Charles enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, camping, bingo, and going to the casino.
