Charles H. Serres, 73, of Moline, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center -East Campus, Davenport.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2007 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family or the American Heart Association.
Charlie was born on November 14, 1933 in Moline, the son of Frank and Edith Serres. He graduated from Orion High School in 1950. He married Jane Sheesley on May 3, 1953 and they recently celebrated their 54th anniversary.
Charlie worked as a PBX Engineer with Illinois Bell Telephone Co., for 30 years retiring in 1982. He also worked at an independent company for 37 years part-time.
Charlie was very active in the Moline community. He coached girls softball at both Franklin and Wilson from 1965-1970. He also coached the Sexton Redbirds for three years. He was President of the Wilson Dad's Club and also served as a Chairman of the annual Halloween Parade. He received a Community Service Award in 1972. He is a member of the Illinois Telephone Pioneers and also a social member of the Moline Viking Club. He was a die-hard Cub and Bear Fan, and enjoyed watching the Illini.. He was also a member of Riverside Methodist Church, Moline.
Charlie loved his family and enjoyed following all his grandchildren's sporting events whether it was baseball, basketball, cross-country, track , he was there cheering them on! Anyone that knew Charlie, loved his sense of humor and his ability to sing and play his stump fiddle. He was definitely a one-man band and life of the party!

He was preceded in death by both his parents, his brothers, Raymond, Calvin, Eddie and Don, a sister Annabelle, and nephews Randy and Bruce Serres.
