Charles "Chuck" L Maddox

Charles “Chuck” L. Maddox, 84, of Moline, IL, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 12, 2016, at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016, at New Hope Foursquare Church, 2305 7th Avenue, Moline.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline.  Burial will be at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246.  In lieu of flowers, Chuck requested for donations to be made to the Police Benevolent Association or to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Charles was born on August 26, 1932, in Hazen, AR, the son of Robert Lee and Annie Lee Holcomb Maddox.  He retired from the Moline Police Department on March 10, 1979 after 23 years of service.  He also worked at John Deere PDW in Milan before retiring.

Chuck was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening, especially hot peppers.  He was happiest at his cabin along the Rock River with his brother, Jim, where they hosted family gatherings for many years.

Chuck was a Korean War veteran and a very proud member of the Illinois Police Benevolent Association. He was also a member of the Friends Circle Club and the Cavalier Club.

Those left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Catherine Maddox, and children, Frances (Joe) Maddox Williams, Charles “Randy” Maddox, Shawn (Jill) Maddox, Veronica Brown, John Brown, Terry (Deb) Brown; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Leroy, Jim, and Bob.
