Claretta Brissman Leonhard, age 93, of Prophetstown and formerly of East Moline, died April 13, 2005 at
Prophet's Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown, IL
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 15th at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601 - 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Moline, Augustana College or Prophet's Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown.
Claretta was born on January 25, 1912 in East Moline, the daughter of Sanford and Henrietta Berklund Brissman. She married Donald Leonhard on October 9, 1938 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death in April 1995.
Claretta was a teacher at Barstow School and United Township High School. She was also a substitute teacher for many years in the East Moline Schools. She was a member of AAUW (American Association of University Women) and also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Moline. She was a member of the Zion Circle of the former Lutheran Hospital, the Mary Kay Hillhouse King's Daughters Circle and the Republican Women's Club. She was a member of the Tri-City Symphony Board and also served two years as the President of the East-Moline-Silvis Visiting Nurses' Board.
Survivors include her daughter and spouse, Karen and Ron Lohse of Erie, IL and her son Donald of Erie; 5 grandchildren and spouses, Lt. Col. Ronald and Joy Lohse, Jana and Rick Clancy, Christopher Lohse, Meredith and Scott Hammer, and Rachel Leonhard; 10 great- grandchildren and one niece and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Chester.
