Cleo H. "Shorty" McCain, 84, of Moline, died October 25, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
Cleo was born July 27, 1925 in Marine, IL to Henry and Bertha (Phillips) McCain and was raised by Oscar & Frieda Suess.. He married Myona Traub on February 6, 1946 in Anna, IL. She preceded him in death on July 30, 1992.
Cleo was a yard foreman for Mueller Bahnsen Lumber for 32 years retiring in 1987.
Cleo was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII. He was a member of Moline American Legion Post #246 and V.F.W. Post # 2056 where he served on the honor guard. He was also a member of AM Vets, Rock Island Council of V.F.W., 40&8, Military Order of Cootie, and former Teamster 371. He enjoyed fishing, camping and watching NASCAR racing.
