Clifford M. Palmer, 92 of Rock Island died December 30, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Rite of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be Monday from 3-5 p.m. with a wake service at 3 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in East Moline with military rites conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline.
Clifford was born June 4, 1912 in Moline to Perry and Jennie Suman Palmer the oldest out of five children. He married Mary M. Frest on September 7, 1946 at St. Mary's Church in East Moline. They had been married for 65 years.
Clifford was a warehouse foreman at Consumer Sales for 28 years retiring in 1974. He later worked at the Rock Island Forest Preserve for 9 years retiring in 1983.
Clifford joined the Army in 1942 and worked side by side with General George Patton. He served in the 3rd Army in France and Gemany. Mr. Palmer had held General Patton's pearl handle pistol so that General Patton could swim in a river in France.
Clifford was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. For many years he served daily mass, funeral masses and was an usher on Sunday morning mass.
