Craig A. Hughes, age 49 of Davenport died Monday, July 4, 2005 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Milwaukee, WI.
As per Craig's wishes, his body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., July 8th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. The family will receive friends following the service in the Ark (Fellowship Hall of the Church). Memorials may be made to Kathy's House ( Hospital Hospitality House) St. Paul Lutheran Church or the International Myeloma Foundation. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. is assisting the family.
Craig was born January 22, 1956 in Moline, IL. the son of Harris and Catherine Swanson Hughes. He married Karyl (Kagele) Colarusso in Maui, Hawaii on February 14, 1998.
Craig began his career with his father in 1980 and became the owner and operator in 1987 of Hughes Company - True Value Store in Orion, where he worked until 2004. He belonged to St Paul Lutheran Church in Orion. He was a volunteer member of the Orion Fire District for many years. Craig was an avid runner with the Cornbelt Running Club, and ran the Bix for many years where he was a volunteer in many of the events. He ran 18 marathons including the San Diego marathon in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Craig loved animals and raised 3 litters (33 Puppies) of Golden Retrievers, which he sold and donated the proceeds to the Leukemia Foundation. He and his wife Karyl were active participants in providing 2 Therapy Dogs which were used for patients at Genesis West Hospital. Craig liked scuba diving, sky diving, biking, learning new things, being an organizer and spending time and caring for his family and friends.
