Curtis L. “Curt” Whitten, 55, of Moline, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, February 11, 2019, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, and military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to GiGi’s Playhouse, Nashville, TN.
Curt was born on February 14, 1963, in Pensacola, FL, the son of Jimmie R. and Linda Sue (Newingham) Whitten. He was a U.S. Veteran serving in the Army. He married Rosetta G. Schomer on December 19, 1981, in Andalusia. Curt had previously been employed as a painter at the Rock Island Arsenal, and he did mechanic work at the Arsenal as well.
Curt was an avid Bears and Cubs fan. He enjoyed being outdoors, hiking and camping. He loved traveling to his cabin up north and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Whitten; children, Julie (Steven Clausen) Whitten, Bettendorf, Curtis R. (Julie) Whitten, East Moline, and Steaphanie (Jesse) Smith, Moline; grandchildren, Alexander, Alie, Hayley, Desi, Emily and Anna; brother, John (Rebecca) Whitten, Benton, LA; sister, Jeanine (Walter) McIntosh, Thompson’s Station, TN; four nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
