Dan Daryl Norton

Dan Daryl Norton, 85, of LeClaire, Iowa, passed away March 15, 2025, at his home.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday March 21, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, East Moline. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday March 20, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Additional visitation will also be held one-hour prior to services at the church. The burial will be at Moline Memorial Park.

Dan was born on October 13, 1939, in Davenport, the son of Clair H. and Hazel S. (Johnson) Norton. He married Mary Ellen Hedgepeth on November 26, 1960. Dan had been employed as a mechanic with the Iowa Illinois Gas & Electric Company and was a member of the I.B.E.W. He was a lifetime racing enthusiast, and owned several stock cars over the years. He helped to mentor many drivers and earned an excellent reputation in the racing community. Dan was an NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) world record holder and was recently honored locally with a lifetime achievement award.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; son, Darrell (Kim) Norton; son, David Norton; son, Darren Norton; daughter, Mari -Sue (Craig) Watkins; son, Damon Norton; grandchildren, Jared, Drake, Becca, Sivi, Montana, Clayton, Jesse; great grandchildren, Celeste, Ezekial, Sophia, Maddox, Oakley; brother, Edward Johnson; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Norton; brother, Ray; and sister, Bonnie.
