Daniel H. Thomas, age 91, of Rock Island, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Visitation is from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is in Rock Island Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Free Church, Moline or Christian Friendliness.
Daniel was born February 3, 1916 in Rock Island, the son of Anthonie and Marie Romanie (Van Der Platczen) Thomas. He married Barbara D. Stading on December 25, 1937 in Fairbank, IA.
Daniel was a partner with his wife in the Thomas Paint & Decorating Store for 29 years, retiring in 1985. He was a 1934 graduate of Rock Island High School. Daniel was a member of First Evangelical Free Church since 1932, where he was a Sunday school teacher, a choir member for over 30 years, and served on the Board of Deacons and also the Board of Trustees. He was a past president of the Milan Chamber of Commerce, a member of # 502 Local - Painters Union, past secretary of the Painting Contractors Association, and served on trade boards and apprenticeship committees. Daniel enjoyed traveling, sports especially baseball, classic cars and woodworking.
