Darleen R. Powell, 80, of Moline, died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Bethany Baptist Church, Moline. Visitation will be today from 4-7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church or Christian Friendliness.
Darleen was born March 7, 1929 in Moline to Carl V. and Nellie (Benell) Beckstrom. She married Richard B. Powell on May 1, 1953 in Denver, Colorado.
Darleen was a 1950 graduate of the former Lutheran School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and retired in 1990 after 40 years of nursing.
Darleen was a very active member of Bethany Baptist Church, Moline which included Women's Guild, Missionary Society, singing in the choir, youth sponsor, Sunday school teacher, church camp nurse and she also worked in the kitchen. When her daughters were younger she was a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the Alumni Association of Nursing and she and her husband were involved with United Marriage Encounter. She enjoyed painting, interior decorating, crafts, braiding rugs, and wood carving - which she learned from her father.
