Darlene E. Stroup, 80, of Orion, IL, died Friday, March 13, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2815 West 3rd Street, Coal Valley. Family may be greeted one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will be at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal. In lieu of flowers, Darlene asked for memorials to be made to Crisis Pregnancy Center or to Trinity Lutheran Church - Seminarian. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion is assisting the family with arrangements.
Darlene was born on March 28, 1934, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Edna Degnar Porath. She married Norman G. Stroup on June 27, 1951, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Newell, IA, where she was also baptized and confirmed. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1996. She worked as the head cook for Orion Middle School for 17 years.
Darlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Coal Valley, where she taught Sunday school and Widows Bible Study Class. She was the past president of Mary Martha Guild and loved her Lord, family, and friends.
Darlene was an advocate for Right to Life and a member of the NRA. She enjoyed cross stitching, doll collecting, and decorating her home for the seasons.
