David M. Anderson, 58, of Sherrard, passed away, Monday January 15, 2024, at City of Hope Hospital in Zion, IL.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6pm on January 26th at Homewood Evangelical Free Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm on January 25th at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. He will be buried at Rock Island Memorial Park near his father. The family requests cards of gratitude be sent to City of Hope Hospital for the exceptional care David received in his final days. Memorial funds will be collected for Homewood Evangelical Free Church and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
David was born on March 10, 1965, in Moline, the son of Martin and Ruth (Biscontine) Anderson. He married Michelle Fitzmaurice on July 8, 1989, in Bloomington-Normal. He was employed as the area representative for F.C.A. – Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Through FCA, he had the opportunity to mentor high school and college athletes, which is something he highly valued. David was an active member of Homewood Church where he served as an elder, member of the Mission Board, and taught Sunday school. As part of the leadership team of Child Arise, he advocated for orphans and widows in Kenya. David had many honorable qualities, he was kind, hardworking, and selfless to name a few. He enjoyed fishing, pickleball, softball, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls, Bears, Cubs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle; son, Austin (Onna) Anderson; daughters, Morgan (Reed) Durley, Faith Anderson; grandchildren, Lena and Nora; mother, Ruth Anderson; sisters, Lisa (Daryl) Bounds, Jan (Mike) Lewis, Sheila Hendricks; and several nieces and nephews.
David was a loyal husband to Michelle for thirty-four years. As a father, he was supportive and loving to all of his children. He raised his children to know God and to treat others with kindness and respect (as he did). His humble spirit, sense of humor, and many misadventures have led to countless “dad stories” that his family will continue to reminisce on with fondness. Recently, he became a grandfather to Lena Durley and Nora Anderson, and he deeply valued the time spent with both of his granddaughters. Even though he will not have the opportunity to watch them grow, both the girls will learn about his legacy and his love for them.
David did not fear death in his final moments because he was confident in his salvation through Christ. He lived his life sharing that hope with others both locally and overseas. It was David's wish that his funeral service would be a celebration of how abundantly the Lord had blessed him throughout his life. To know David was to love him, and while he will be sorely missed, there is great hope knowing he is now in a place without suffering or pain.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Anderson.
