David H. Kirk, age 80 of Orion, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. 1301-4th Street, Orion. Visitation is from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to Orion Volunteer Fire Department or Orion United Methodist Church.
Dave was born March 27, 1927 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Howard and Esther (Brasmer) Kirk. He married Betty J. Tiffenback on October 14, 1951 at the Orion United Methodist Church.
Dave attended Monmouth College for 2 years, and graduated from Worsham School of Mortuary Science in Chicago. He served his internship after he graduated from Worsham with the Wheelan Funeral Home. After his internship, he formed a partnership with the late Ronald Benson in 1957 and they owned and operated the Benson & Kirk Funeral Home in Orion and also the Benson & Kirk Furniture Store in Orion. Dave and George Huggins owned and operated the Kirk, & Huggins Funeral Home in Orion until their retirement in 1981. After retirement, he worked for the Time Reality and Good Day Reality Companies. He was also a World War II navy veteran. Dave was a member of the Orion United Methodist Church; a life time member of Orion VFW #255; and served on many committees with the Orion Village. He was a member and former president of the Orion Lion's Club; co-founder of the Orion Lion's Club golf tournament; former member and president of the Orion school board; served for 20 years on the Zoning Board of Orion and was a volunteer on the Orion Fire Department.
Dave was a former member of the Illinois and Mississippi Valley Funeral Director's Association. He was an avid golfer and served as president and on the board of Mill Creek Country Club. Dave was a lifelong Cubs fan, enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors and turning out a well manicured lawn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law James Humphreys and sister Ruth Ann Benson.
Dave thought the world of his 2 grandsons Kirk and Benjamin. He was a wonderful and loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His positive attitude, incredible energy and fun spirit will live on in all of those whose lives he touched.
