David E. Vatt

March 22, 1925 — January 20, 2013

David E. Vatt, age 87, of East Moline, formerly of Coal Valley, IL, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, with his wife of 63 years at his side.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 25, 2013, at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, 1201 13th Street, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded and burial of cremains will be at Rose-Lawn Memorial Estates. Memorials may be made to Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church.

Mr. Vatt was born on March 22, 1925, in Silvis, IL, the son of Emil and Elizabeth (Pasmandi) Vatt. He graduated from United Township High School and later married Marjorie Ingwers on May 15, 1949, in Moline, IL. David attended Augustana College in Rock Island and the University of Iowa prior to serving in the United States Army. He retired from John Deere Davenport Works after 30 years. From 1988 through 1992 Mr. Vatt served as the Mayor of Coal Valley.

David attended Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church in Moline, IL. He enjoyed playing golf, and though he rarely kept score, he achieved his lifetime goal of a "hole-in-one" at Highland Springs Golf Course. David also enjoyed woodworking in his Coal Valley home and built many pieces of furniture for his family. Mr. Vatt also enjoyed time with his family and playing euchre at Park Vista retirement community where his skill in euchre earned him the nickname of "Sharky".

He was preceded in death by his parents; special aunt, Mary Cardinalli; and sister, Cornelia Rahn.
