Dennis L Brodd

Dennis L. Brodd, 84, of Orion, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1001-9th St., Orion.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in the Ark at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial of cremains will be at Western Township Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.  Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., is assisting the family.

Dennis was born on June 24, 1933 in Moline, the son of Chester and June (Johnson) Brodd.  He graduated from Orion High School in 1951.  He married Jeanne Beth Alstad on April 6, 1968.

Dennis was employed at Deere & Co. for over 31 ½ years as a metallurgical technician, retiring in 1986.  He was also a member of the American Metallurgical Society.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church serving two terms on the church council and several years as an usher.  He was a member of the Orion Lions Club and helped at the Fall Festival for several years.  Dennis was also active in the Q.C. Us TOO Prostate Cancer Support Group for several years.  He also served one term on the Village Board after retirement.  Dennis enjoyed softball in his twenties and golf most of his life (with two holes-in-one), time with family, church friends, pet dogs and yard and house care.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; daughter, Stacy Gerth, Winnetka, IL; son, Stephen (Gretchen) Brodd, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Lauren, Heather, and Graham Gerth, and Landon Brodd; sister-in-law, Marilyn Brodd, Raleigh, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne.
