Dennis C. Carlson, 81, of Sherrard, passed away December 18, 2024, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday January 10, 2025, at First Evangelical Free Church, 3321 7th Street, Moline. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Dennis’s name. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline, is assisting the family.

Dennis was born on October 16, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Reynold G. and Marjorie A. (Peterson) Carlson. Dennis was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Navy form 1961-1964. He married Twila E. Watts on October 10, 1969, in Sherrard. Dennis had previously been employed as Supervisor of the Housekeeping Department at the former Trinity Medical Center, retiring in 2008 after over 34 years. He later was the train conductor at the Niabi Zoo.

Dennis was a former member of the Sherrard Community Presbyterian Church and a current member of First Evangelical Free Church, Moline. He attended mission trips to El Monte, Mexico, Tanzania, East Africa and Costa Rica. He volunteered his time at YouthHope, Camp Summit, cutting down trees after Hurricane Katrina, and helped build a church in Moscow, Idaho. He was an avid fisherman and went on annual fishing trips to Minnesota. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife to Italy, Germany, Switzerland and France.

Survivors include his wife, Twila Carlson, children; Colleen (Lloyd) LaPlante, Moline, Corina (Martin) Buck, Burlington, KY, Caleb (Rebekah) Carlson, Bloomington, IL, Paul (Angela) Lucas, Cary, NC, Stephen (Maria) Lucas, Bettendorf; grandchildren; Asia (Nick) Richardson, Cearra LaPlante, Joelle LaPlante, Isaiah Buck, Savanna Buck, Amelia Carlson, John Lucas, David Lucas, Michael Lucas, Michael (Naomi) Wright; great grandchildren, Eden Richardson and Blaise Wright.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Arthur Carlson.
