Dr. Donald "Doc" Neilson, 86, of Moline died November 6, 2006 at Trinity West, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 9th at First Baptist Church in Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to his church, First Baptist in Moline or Judson College in Elgin. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is handling arrangements.
Donald was born on January 2, 1920 in Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan, Canada the son of Charles and Inez Allen Neilson.
Donald was employed as an optometrist at Illinois Optical Company for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Friends Circle Club, the Svithoid Club, Thor Lodge #9 I.O.V. and the Exalted Ruler of the former Elks Club. He was a charter member of Hill Creek County Club in Milan and a supporter of Judson Baptist College in Elgin.
Survivors include three nephews - Mike Neilson of Frederick, Colorado, Gerald "Jerry" and Dixie Neilson of Cottage Grove, Minnesota and Donald Neilson of Clearwater, Florida.
He was preceded in death by three brothers - Eugene, Willard and Paul and one sister Ruth Neilson, his parents and a special friend Jeanice Casad.
