Donald D. Frakes, 8l of Orion passed away on September 8, 2010 at Trinity Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11th at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home,
1301-4th Street, Orion. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Orion American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Orion Ambulance Service or Orion Educational Fund.
Donald was born on February 10, 1929 in Viola, IL the son of Marion Philip and Florence Knox Frakes. He married Sandra Weekley on December 21, 1984 in East Moline.
Donald was employed as the Superintendent of Schools for the Orion School District for 18 years, retiring in 1990. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Masonic Lodge #577 AF & AM. He was also a member and past president of the Orion Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, leatherwork and time spent with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Sandra of Orion, children Elizabeth (Tom ) Wheeler of Geneseo; Mark (Carolyn) Frakes of Forest City, IA; Greg Francis of Adel, IA; Jeff (Julie) Francis of Orion and Todd (Lisa) Francis of Alpha; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; sister-in-law Marjorie Frakes of Orion and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Barry, Jerry and Tom and sister-in-law Audrey Frakes.
