Donald J. Holliday, 99, of Orion, IL, died Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Preemption Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Orion American Legion Post 255 and the V.F.W. Post 143. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Parkinson's Research.
Donald was born on March 26, 1915, in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Lester and Mary Gould Holliday. He married Gloria S. Erb in August of 1949 in Davenport, IA, and she preceded him in death in January of 1982. He later married Roberta Nimrick Wilson in April of 1983 and she preceded him in death on October 1, 1999.
Donald was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during WWII serving on an anti aircraft battery. He retired as a telemetry technician for White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the American Legion Arizona Chapter and National, and the V.F.W. National.
