Donald James Lawson, 92 of Orion died May 19, 2004 at Good Samaritan in Geneseo.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2004 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Roger Lawson Scholarship Fund.
Donald was born August 6, 1911 in Orion, IL to Sanford H. and Gertrude Wilkins Lawson. He married Phyllis Mae Wilson on July 17, 1938 in Galesburg, IL. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1966.
Donald began his career at the former Sherrard Power System, Orion as a meter reader and retired as a bookkeeper in 1976 after 38 years of employment. After his retirement he served on the Board of Directors for the Sherrard Power System.
Donald was a member of Orion United Methodist Church. He was a fifty plus year member of the Sherman Lodge No 535 AF & AM, Orion. He was a charter member of the Orion Lions Club. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Orion Telephone Exchange serving first as treasurer and later as vice president. He was also treasurer for the Orion School District for over 26 years. He was the M.C. of the Orion Corn Show which preceded the Orion Fall Festival.
He was a devoted Cubs fan throughout his life and enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting in his younger years and duck and pheasant eating in his later years.
