Donna Bender

Donna J. Bender, 70, of Orion, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019, at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline.

Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2019, at Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Orion. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the church, with a rosary to be recited at 1:30 p.m.  Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island.  The family requests no flowers please due to allergies.  Memorials may be made to the church, Cursillo, or TEC (Teens Encounter Christ).  Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion, is assisting the family.

Donna was born on July 14, 1948, in Moline, the daughter of Ralph and Shirley (Anderson) Maas.  She married Roland Bender on June 20, 1970, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. She was a member of Mary Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church where she was past president of the Alter & Rosary Society.  Donna also volunteered much of her time to Cursillo and TEC.  Donna was previously employed at the Isabelle Shop, where she made drapery and upholstery.  She later worked as a lunch maid and PTA President at Logan Elementary in the eighties.  She then went on to Tattersall, Hartley and Dot’s Hallmark in Bettendorf.   Donna retired from working in housekeeping at Christ the King Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Roland Bender; children, Rob Bender, Rock Island, Mike (Nici Kalomas) Bender, Rock Island, Suzie (Billy) Wermerskirchen, Shakopee, MN; grandchildren, Charla Bender, Graysen Raines, and Liam Wermerskirchen; great grandchildren, Natalie Lester and Troy Tilbot; sisters, Mary Maas, Coal Valley, Susan (John) Crosby, Oklahoma City, and Doris (John) Gatton, Coal Valley.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
