Dorothy H. Conner, 98, of Moline, died January 1, 2009 at Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline.
Cremation rites have been accorded and private funeral services will be conducted and burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. A memorial service will be held at Riverside United Methodist Church at a later date. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family.
Dorothy was born July 5, 1910 in Mason, IL to Charles and Lola Holbrook, they later moved to Keokuk, IA where she graduated from high school. She attended the College of Music in Springfield, IL. The family then moved to Chicago, IL and she attended the College of Fine Arts in Chicago.
She worked at Marshall Field & Co. for five years and later worked for the A.B. Dick Company for 14 years. She married Albert R. Conner in 1946 in Chicago. They moved to Mechanicsville, IA in 1948 which was centrally located for her husband's traveling the state of Iowa. In 1950, their son was born in Cedar Rapids, IA. While in Mechanicsville, Dorothy began teaching both piano and voice, which she continued after their move to Moline, IL. Since she had loved office work and the business world, when her son reached high school age, she entered the business world again-working for D.R. Light & Co. then for Deere & Co. Planter Works, until her retirement.
She was active in various circles in the church and had sung in a church choir since age 12. She and her husband were both active in the Sunday school program of the church. Her hobbies were music, sewing, reading and being with friends.
