Dorothy Ellen Garrity, age 84, formerly of Orion , died Friday, December 8, 2006 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Orion United Methodist Church. Visitation is from 3:30-8:00 p.m. Monday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301-4th Street, Orion. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Orion United Methodist Church or Orion American Legion Women's Auxiliary # 255.
Dorothy was born November 28,1922 in Milan the daughter of John and Mildred (Moffitt) Blaser. She married Thomas Garrity on October 12, 1947 at Milan Methodist Church.
Mrs. Garrity was employed for 10 years as a bookkeeper and secretary for the Rock Island Board of Education, and for 14 years as an accounts payable supervisor at Black Hawk College, Moline, retiring in 1988.
She was a 1940 graduate of Rock Island High School. Dorothy was a member of Orion United Methodist Church where she also belonged to the Queen Esther Circle. She was also a member of Orion American Legion Women's Auxiliary . Dorothy loved to cook and her home was always open for family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved her annual summer vacation on Lake George in Minnesota with her family.
