Dorothy, or "Dot," was born October 7, 1919, to Arthur A. and Alma Benson Milton, Rock Island, and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran. In 1938 she graduated from Rock Island High School and in 1942 from Augustana College. After teaching in Reynolds, she traveled to Washington, D.C., to work for the government, as many women did during World War II. She retired in 1973 after working in executive positions in various agencies of the Defense Department. In 1994 she moved back to Rock Island, to Friendship Manor, and she rejoined St. John's Lutheran.
During her career, Dot traveled to Europe and Cuba. A career woman herself, she strongly encouraged the education and careers of her younger siblings and her sibling's children. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She greatly appreciated the kindness of her caregivers.
Dot is survived by her brother John Milton and his wife Eleanor, Glenview. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her sister Eunice, her brothers Arthur and Kenneth, and her parents.
