Dorothy Greyshock Post, 85, Milan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., March 25th at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Burial will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24th, at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601-38th Avenue, Moline, with a rosary service beginning at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association chapter in Davenport, IA.
Mrs. Post was born January 29th, 1923, in Donegal, PA, the daughter of Walter Greyshock and Elizabeth (Luda) Greyshock. She grew up and attended St. Mary's School and Brownsville High School in Brownsville, PA. She married George W. Post Jr. of Philadelphia on April 4th, 1959 in PA. He died June 13th, 2005 in Davenport, IA. In the last year, Dorothy had lived in Friendship Manor, Rock Island, IL and then Avonlea Cottage, Milan, IL.
Dorothy worked in management throughout her life, both with St. Mary's Nativity School of Joliet, IL and with Bell Telephone (later AT&T, then Qwest). She retired in 1986.
She was a devout member of the Roman Catholic faith during her entire life. After retiring, she was an active volunteer for Mercy Hospital Auxiliary (later Genesis), Davenport and Qwest Pioneers. Dorothy was known for always smiling and being upbeat and happy. She enjoyed cruises and traveling, both cooking and dining out, attending opera and theatre, visiting with family and friends, Chicago shopping trips, financial planning, taking brisk walks, and having her beloved grand-dog, Biba, sleep over.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Richard Engstrom, Moline, IL; friend Kim Eastland, Moline, who was like a son to her in the last years of her life; sisters Francis Hoddo of Brownsville, PA and Elizabeth Thomas of NJ; sister-in-law, Betty Frederick and her husband Bill, Ambler, PA; and various nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and two sisters
