Dorothy F. Sapato, 98, of Moline, passed away, April 23, 2025, at Allure of Moline.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christ Anglican Church, Moline.
Dorothy was born on May 28, 1926, to Samuel Fern and Dorothy Marie Corns Arnold in Bentonsport, Iowa. She married Arcie Sapato on September 23, 1946, in Maywood, IL. He preceded her in death on February 6, 2018.
She attended school in and around Keosauqua and graduated from Burlington High School. After graduating, she immediately went to Washington D.C. where she was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working there for 3 years as a clerk typist. She then went to Chicago to work for American Bank Note Co., where she met and married Arcie, her love of 70 years. Together, they moved to Burlington, Iowa, and later to the Quad Cities. Dorothy, along with two partners, formed a company “Twin States Machine Tool Inc”. She was involved in many civic organizations in the community but always made time for the family she cherished.
Dorothy leaves behind her son, Stephen (Kristen) Sapato; son-in-law, Gerald Schmidt; grandchildren, Shelley (Brian) Altenbaumer, Heather Schmidt, Erin (Dan) Severs, Zachary Sapato, and Denny (Molly) Mekus; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Jared Altenbaumer, Darin Severs, Max and Mia Mekus; many nieces and nephews.
Those preceded her in death are her parents, Samuel and Dorothy; husband, Arcie; brother, Blaine (Judy) Arnold; sister, Madeline Ford; daughter Cheryl Schmidt.
