Dorothy Solomonson

Dorothy Solomonson, 86, of Orion, IL, died Wednesday, April 05, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center – Silvis Campus, Silvis, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Osco Evangelical Free Church, 311 Main Street, Osco, IL.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion.  Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Osco Evangelical Free Church Building Fund.

Dorothy was born on April 30, 1930, in Hinsdale, IL, the daughter of Melvin J. and Maymie B. Shipp Erwin.  She married Glenn L. Solomonson on December 18, 1953, in Plano, IL, and he preceded her in death on June 21, 1986.

Dorothy worked as a rural mail carrier assistant for the Osco area for 15 years.  She then worked as a custodian for State Bank of Osco and later for Central Bank Osco for 20 years. Dorothy went on to work as a cook for the former Meadow Lanes in Orion for 25 years and Andover Historical Inn for 2 years.

Dorothy was a member of Osco Evangelical Free Church, where she was the choir director for over 35 years.  She was a Geneseo Kitchen Band member for over 10 years, a member of Proclaimers, and a former piano player.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Janice (Richard) Fujii, Oswego, IL, Sue Sheldon, Aurora, IL, and Craig (Chris) LeRette, Aurora, IL, Donald Erwin, Jr.; nieces, Benita and Connie; 2 great nephews, Jason and David Sheldon, Oswego, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Donald Erwin.
