Dorris M. Houston

Dorris M. Houston, 93, of Moline, died on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Continuing Care, Rock Island surrounded by her loving family.

Celebration of life service will be at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave, Moline.  Visitation will follow the service from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  A private inurnment will be held at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to sponsor activities at St. Anthony’s Continuing Care.

Dorris was born on May 7, 1924, in Durand, WI, the daughter of Helga Marie and Clifford Lenhart.  She married James “Sam” E. Houston in October of 1946.  He preceded her in death in 1990.  She provided in-home nursing care and worked as a private caterer.  Dorris enjoyed camping, fishing, and baking.  She loved birds and Christmas, and spending time with her grandkids and family.

Survivors include her sons, Henry “Bud”, Charles (Cindy) and Jimmie (Coleen); grandchildren, Stephen (Bonnie), Amber (Kevin), Laura (Mike), Beth, Jennifer (Jeffrey); great grandchildren, Jonathon, Halle, Devan, and Delaney; and siblings, Loran and Molly.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.
